Not sure of the year, but I remember the night Mike and Audrie installed the cross walk between Sam's Pastime and Uncle Bill's Bar. My grandfather painted the sign.

I think that may have been 1982 or 83. I was lucky enough to be a witness to this and also to the midnight erection of the Elfego Lives flagpole in the center of the Catron county fair and rodeo.

This book was followed by the fictional MAGGIE WHITSON, a funny story about an old lady confined to a nursing home. After that, came FROM THESE ROOTS, both fiction and factual, telling the true story of my mother's life and the fiction of what I imagined my grandmothers life had been. Now there's a fifth book, A LOT LIKE JOAN OF ARC, which is a fictional story told by a nine-year-old girl. So I'm trying to decide what's next.

It was one of Grandpa's last, but a truly excellent sign.
His last sign was a rainbow. I still thank him every time I see one.
